The Active Transportation Microgrant Program is a non-infrastructure initiative to provide eligible organizations with up to $5,000 in funding for resources that advance safe, accessible, sustainable, and equitable walking, biking and rolling in Connecticut, including to and from schools. For 1st quarter funding, entities located in the MetroCOG Region (Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and/or Trumbull) should submit applications and supporting to MetroCOG via applications@ctmetro.org by 4 pm, Tuesday, March 26th, 2024.
On March 1st, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced the creation of a new state-funded Active Transportation Microgrant Program. CTDOT has allocated $500,000 in microgrants to be distributed across Connecticut through this new program. The Active Transportation Microgrant Program is a non-infrastructure initiative to provide eligible organizations with up to $5,000 in funding for resources that advance safe, accessible, sustainable, and equitable walking, biking and rolling in Connecticut, including to and from schools. This program works in conjunction with the CTDOT’s Safe Routes to School Program and will be administered by regional Councils of Governments (COGs). For 1st quarter funding, entities located in the MetroCOG Region (Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and/or Trumbull) should submit applications and supporting to MetroCOG via applications@ctmetro.org by 4 pm, Tuesday, March 26th, 2024.
Schools, school districts, municipalities and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply. Eligible items include:
• Bicycle helmets
• Bicycle locks
• Bicycle fleets, including adaptive bikes
• Safety vests
• Bicycle maintenance training and materials
• League Cycling Instructors training
• Programs, events, and materials for bicycle and pedestrian safety education
Entities located in the municipalities of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and/or Trumbull should apply for this program via MetroCOG. All other entities should visit the CT SRTS program site for an appropriate contact. Please read the guidelines and application carefully. If you are interested in applying, please keep the following in mind:
• For 1st quarter funding, applications and supporting material must be submitted via applications@ctmetro.org by 4 pm, Tuesday, March 26th, 2024.
• Projects will be selected based on application completeness and the order in which they were submitted (to the COG) until the available funds for the current year have been committed.
• MetroCOG will submit a list of applications to CTDOT on a quarterly basis. Each entity may submit two applications per calendar year.
• Up to $500,000 is available statewide – the program works in conjunction with Connecticut’s Safe Routes to School Program. In addition to providing an application to MetroCOG, all applicants must register with the CT SRTS program.
• Recipients must purchase and install all items within one calendar year of receipt of funds and provide all required documentation (including invoices) to the COG.
